I own the D800 Eric spoke of and have seen other mistakes also. I've seen a D500 with a V8, tag says it a V8, but the frame was stamped as a six cylinder.
Normally its just a one digit mis-stamp. In your case there are three digits in question. I would suspect that the last number "6" is stamped on the frame but you're not seeing it yet.
That leaves you with the first two stamped wrong. Sombody at the factory had an off day on that error.
