From what I gather 5 is direct 1 to 1 just like a 4 speed. The 5 speed over drive version of the tranny has 4th gear direct and 5th is over drive. I believe the 5 speed New Process OD transmission became first available on the Pilot House seiries trucks. Could be wrong though.
Thing is for me, the 5 speed direct tranny would work real nice in my WC since I will be running 4.10's in it soon. The way it stands now wirh the 900-16 and 4.30 gears, when I shift from 3rd to 4th the RPM's drop quite a bit and on real big hills I need to gear down into 3rd. Installing the 237 motor in it has helped quite a bit. I will be going back to the 750-16's when I get the 4.10's installed so that may help quite a bit.
