I have not facts just theories on that. all the manufacturers in 1946 immediately went back into civilian production with 1941 tooling. No one really released any new designers until 48 or so. on the gauges the round type are probably more expensive and they don't look like a factory design and designers want distinction in the brand.
They also went back to positive ground 6 volt. I would have loved to see them stay with neg ground 12 volt. But that was not the standard and they probably had a zillion parts already made when the war started.
In the US we always used to make massive amounts of extra inventory. Then in the 70s and 80s they started to adapt the lean manufacturing model of the Japanese. which is essentially don't make anything until you need it theory. A theory which might make the accountants sleep better but results in lack of parts for repairs and when fukishima reactor shut down japan they had no stock to keep building cars the companies lost billions.
