Jeff: You are probably fine, but here are some things I've learned.

1) Measure the main and rod bearings before you put them in.

2) Measure the crank. Shops make mistakes.

3) Make sure the crank turns freely and smoothly with minimal drag before you put the connecting rods on. If the crank is a bit snug, hit the end hard a few times with a brass hammer to help seat it. You would be surprised on that.

4) I assume you offset the rings so the gaps are not all lined up in one spot?

5) The oil ring you are talking about can be a PITA. (pain in the a$%), so take your time to get it right with the center spring ring overlapped correctly with the two dots. Do that wrong and it will fail.

6) The rings have a top and bottom. Dot goes up.

Some people make a pressured fitting to pre-lube everything. You already used plenty of assembly lube, so that may not be needed. But, crank the engine over with the starter and no plugs in and make sure you get oil pressure.

Some other thoughts after watching people get frustrated with a new engine.

1) put a fresh battery in it
2) Get your carb and starter rebuilt or at least tested
3) Use the right gauge battery cables
4) PRESSURE TEST THE COOLING SYSTEM BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE ENGINE. It's really hard to get at some of the freeze plugs once it's all together and in the truck.

Before you try to start it, crack your fuel line at the carb and crank it until you see fuel.

Double check you have the firing order right.

Take a video!

Good luck.

Wayne
