My recommendation...ive been buying & selling expensive cars online for 15 years & yet to be burned.
If for any reason you don't 100% trust the seller...walk away. If you don't trust the seller to send a money order then trust your judgement & don't buy the vehicle.
There is no other way unless you have friends in the area & usually that's too complicated & time consuming & nobody is going to hold a car unless the funds are on the way with a tracking number.
The Internet is full of a-holes but the good news is they don't show up very often in the old truck world. That said...if you don't trust the guy enough to send money in the mail, I'd walk.
