The move to disks was less about stopping power and more about fade. Drums have way more braking area than most disks. My Desoto would easily lock up all four with drums and the super boosted brakes.
Problem was they were notorious for having really bad brake fade when those drums got hot, and then they were wasn't enough boosting to fix the problem. Disks have far better cooling characteristics and are less likely to fade. I converted the Desoto to front disks before our Blue Ridge Parkway trip years ago for that reason. It can easily be put back for originality if someone wanted.
It's also nice not having to adjust them or do much in the way of special setup, and parts are available over the counter at any parts store since like the PW setups they use common parts.
