251 Timing and Freeing Stuck Valves

Been helping Keith Wolfe get the 251 that we installed in his 1940 VF started. It ran when pulled, but sat outside covered with no carb on it for a few years. Installed professionally rebuilt carb. No compression in #3 and #4. Figure the valves are stuck open from sitting. Soaked with Marvel Mystery Oil. Fired on a few cylinders, but no happiness. Backfiring through carb suggested intake valve stuck open. Removed valve covers and confirmed large gap between lifter and valves in low position on #3 and #4 intakes. Used allen wrench in plug holes to tap on valves. Freed up #4 intake, but still no compression. Soaked with PB Blaster and will try again when snow melts, which should be Sunday in the 70s.

Was surprised to find the rotor pointing to 5:00 when at TDC. I thought it should be at 7:00.
