Part of an early military test of 4wd vehicles. It isn't the first Dodge 4wd, but it is the first 1/2 ton. The earlier ones were all 1 1/2 ton or so.

Along with the VC-5 open cab there was the VC1 and VC-2 command car, VC-3 closed cab pickup, VC-4 closed cab and chassis, and VC-6 carryall.
