I used a 10K for years with no problem. Remember when we talk legality if your truck is pre about 2008 you have a class 4 hitch and mine states 7500# max without load distribution and 12000# with. So I cant tow a 14k trailer at max load anyway. You can replace with a class 5 or get a gooseneck if you think you need 14k. If your truck is newer and has the 2.5 inch reciever you should be ok but I am not certain of the ratings. Also depending on your state you may need to get heavier licence plates. Missouri has 18k and 24k and you pay a bit more for 18k. DMV talked me into 18k but with 7000# truck I am back to 11K max. Just want to point out overkill on the trailer will require other upgrades and in an accident you probably want everything within ratings. My 14k trailers are quite a bit heavier empty so less capacity if I stay within my plates.
