I got a chance to look at it this afternoon and there is still a sizable spark when connecting the battery with everything off. (Electrical system consists of charging loop, ignition and headlights - lots of stray, frayed, cloth-covered wires). When I pulled the lead from the coil to the distributor it was oily (I don't think that is right).
