I don't know what kind of fuel pump you have but it might be one for a fuel injected engine. Those put out way too much pressure. You need a low pressure pump with about 5 PSI max. I've had an electric pump on my M-37 for several years and it runs good.

Maybe your idle jet is plugged. Pull the screw out and blow some air or canned carb cleaner through it. Then put the idle screw back in. Tighten it in then back it out a few turns. It should now idle. Then you can fine tune it.

If all is well there, then try a different coil.
