Jim, I too had issues with my steering box and my starter on my 318 conversion. There is an older 3 bolt starter that has no solenoid but the flywheel ring gear might have to be changed because it's a different gear count. I just took a stock starter and moved the solenoid back and lengthened the linkage. it's not too hard a job. I think you can also oblong the holes so you can clock the starter a bit to get some more clearance. I havn't been able to find a mini starter that fits the poly bell, but there may be one.
