Back in 2005, I had Betts Spring in San Leandro make custom springs for my Carryall. I had them design the springs for the max load I figured I would ever carry in the rear, 750 pounds.

I asked them specifically about adding the teflon strips between the spring leafs for an even better ride. I thought the engineer was going to have a stroke with that question.

The Engineer went into detail saying the only vehicle they would put teflon between the leafs was an Ambulance, which need the best ride possible. He told me that the friction between leafs rubbing on compression and extension, plus
the properly designed spring pack is needed so on a heavy compression or extension you don't possibly flip a shackle…not good. He further told me that just removing leafs is not the answer to a good ride. The spring pack must be designed with the proper number of leafs and thickness to accomplish the ride without a possible shackle flip. He refused under any conditions to add teflon strips.

Betts Spring required me to take many measurements with the existing springs, armed with this info and my desired max load of 750 pounds, Betts designed springs that rode great, as good as any 1/2 ton new pickup. I was very happy with the result….costly yes, but well worth it.
