A lot has been said and quite a few headlines all claimed things like that, but they all overlooked the role of protein demand. Most of the headlines you might have seen in 2008 about food versus fuel have all been proven wrong
The US raises so many crops and produces so much meat that we used to dump our excess fats and carbohydrates on the world market. The predecessor to the World Trade Organization actually made us stop doing that. The US has the most efficient agriculture system in the world, and it keeps getting better. We have so much grain surplus, we have run out of places to put it. Grain is being piled on the ground everywhere in farm country.
