Dodge used the same 4 pinion 8&3/4" third member in their postwar WD, "D" Series Pilot house, Functional Design, and 57-59 Power Giant 3/4 and 1 ton 4x2 trucks. As Kaegi said, they are not as strong as the 9&5/8" TM
's but are still much stronger than the 2 pinion TM's as found in the Military VC and WC 4x4 1/2 tons along with the VD and pre-war WD series civi trucks. The 4 pinion unit has a much larger Diameter axle shaft than the 2 pinion unit. As a matter of fact, I believe it has the same diameter as the 9&5/8" axle shafts. These are the units I installed in my WC 1/2 ton with a ratio of 4.30. I can cruise at 60 MPH with the 237 turning about 2450 or so RPM's.
