Greg, My 64 Poly Hyd bell is drilled and tapped for 3, 4 and 5 speeds (ala Tim). 435s have 1" 10 splines. They maybe had 1.380" 10 spline, and I think some 420s did as they were used in larger trucks. My 540 is 1.380" 10 spline but should be plug and play although the input shaft is shorter. will probably use an extended pilot bearing. All have .75" pilot, but I am no expert.
The Guys at Drivetrain got me a combo U-Joint so I could use the larger 540 yoke and keep the the same one on the middle shaft. Trannys are out if you want to see.

If your 435 is from a D500, I would think it has 1.380" (1-3/8") splines. My 540 is from a 57 D500. 435s and 420s probably have the same bolt pattern. 64 was the first year for 435s. They went to 23 splines at some point, maybe 69 to 72.
