If not too hard to take the floor up, it might be best to just pull the tranny cover and see what's going on. There are so many things it might be that guessing is kind of pointless. But all of them should be obvious by taking a look and trying to move things by hand. If it's an NP420 and something in the top cover is bad, AB Linn has the whole top cover assembly, new, for like $20. It's hardly worth trying to un-stick or un-bend a buggered-up shift rail for that money. All in all, it's one of those things that will probably be obvious as soon as you take a look inside. That will also tell you easily whether the clutch is releasing all the way or not.
