The open frame motor down low would get chips init, and sparks would fly. But a piece of pipe on the handle meant I could drill 1 1/2" holes by merely hanging an arm over the pipe. I learned to change speeds with the flat belts while it was running. Safety guards? We don't need no steenkeeen safety guards.

Later, in my own shop, we has a 36" band saw. Made for line shaft drive, I put another open frame motor on it. Cool motor, had a slip ring oiling system for the sleeve bearings.

But the 54" wide belt sander was the queen of the shop. I wonder if I have any pics?
