The trick to using a tire hammer is to soap the side wall very well swing holding the handle low as you can aiming so that the sharp end hits the side wall 1/2" away from the wheel. As the side wall flexes the soap will let the hammer slide under the wheel bead and push the tire down without dinging the wheel. Take short controlled blows, best to have the wedge in first and start next to the wedge. Got it? now go bust some tires.
