Always good to see someone take on a conversion with a new set of eyes. Whilst Ray's conversion is great, I can't think of any reason why it can't possibly be improved or done differently. The overall aim would be to use stock parts where possible, no welding, minimal machining and the option to return to original if you ever wanted to. Prior to retirement my background is in process improvement, which was a "hands on" position as part of my Project Engineer responsibilities, so I love this type of thing and never accept what's been done in the past as "unimproveable".
