Battery (automobile) reconditioning. Anybody ever done it?

What is involved? Is it as simple as adding distilled water & Epsom Salt then charging? Looking on the internet all I see is books & videos for sale about the matter, most appear to be scams. What sayest Ye Power Wagon brethren?
