Nice area where you are. I was back in that area years ago with the OK state geologist. We went into the hills to look at the local "red neck" oil production. It seems that the local boys were producing some very shallow oil from open wells drilled into oil seeps with submersible pumps that they moved from well to well. The oil never went to market. The local boys would crack it and use it to run stills, tractors and for dust control on the roads. We did see one large tank that the geologist said he had seen both full and empty any everywhere in between. The geologist would "check" on the oil production from time to time by reading the electric meter located on a post from which they could estimate the amount of oil pumped. The electrical system was a bunch of wires nailed to the trees. I was surprised that they actually paid for the power.

At one point we were "meet" by a good ole boy with a shotgun. It was a little interesting until he recognized the geologist with me. They had a good talk and we moved off. As we were walking away, the geologist said the locals could care less about us being in the oil field but I would never be allowed on the other side of the hill. That is where they had their stills. They had noticed us and they had someone check on us. That was an interesting day.

PW content.
You are only a few miles from Broken Arrow where the Braden whinches were made.
