"Minimum stock inventory" and "just in time" production means parts arrive and are used immediately, you don't stockpile parts like the old days - that costs money and storage space costs money..
Unfortunately, they like to do the same with the workforce, too. If there aren't any parts, you go home for the day. And if you don't get enough hours to qualify, you are suddenly a part time employee.
