49" long not counting the rod ends. 1-3/8" dia. Left and right threads on the ends. It may well be a stock steering tie-rod from some '50s Dodge truck, but it runs longitudinally on the vehicle between the steering platform (kind of like a 5th wheel) and the hydraulic cylinder mounted under the middle of the body. If it's "civilian" it would be interesting to know what it's off of so I might prowl around and find spares at some point.

Yes on the snow shoes, and it'll be the same hike going up tomorrow to try to fix it. Didn't mention my dog got caught in a wolf trap too. Not the best day out in the mountains.
