That is a big problem with these old trucks. They need owners that understand them and can sorta feel the ride as part of them. Just learning to shift one can take days of driving it let alone learning when and when not to shift. Took me several days to get the feel of my 13 speed in my water tender. But after a while I could shift that baby with finger tips, no clutch and never lose or grind a gear while shifting. It became part of me when off road on the logging roads driving it where no truck this size should be. 7 years of that and never had a break down or even a fender bender. Did have the road break down a few dime under me and dropped a driveshaft on a bumpy up hill climb no body would go up and I told them it would wheel hop and pop a universal which it did. Put the shaft back together and welded it back up for another 4+ years of driving. It had a crack from a long time ago you could see it and I just finished the job. I saw tenders and new engines break down all the time on wildfires with new drivers we called them kids learning how to drive!
