Something I do on a fresh start. Loosen the dist. turn the crank to #1 compression and set it at 10 or 12 degrees before top dead by the pointer. Hook up the timing light, turn on the key. Push the button on the timing light and rotate the dist. the timing light will flash when the points open. tighten the dist and firer it up. Set timing where you want.
