It looks as if the pioneer rack was mounted in one of several places on the 1/2 ton carryall. The only place I have seen an originally mounted pioneer rack on a WC53 is on the tailgate. It appears that the racks, at least on the WC53s, may have been mounted by army personnel after it left the factory. I would expect the same for 1/2 ton carryalls. I have seen line up pictures of WC53s at the factory delivery lots where the military numbers are being painted on and they do not have pioneer racks as yet. I have also seen WC53s on trucks being delivered and again no pioneer racks. So when were they mounted?
