shift tower has to come off to pull with tranny. you cannot pull the engine and leave bellhousing in place. I always pull the floor and center hump.
pull all drivelines and shifters,
pull trans, then
pull engine with bellhousing and flywheel.
I find it easier to pull trans first because nothing moves when removing bolts.
