So I am looking at picking up a new to me, old used Lathe.

The machine is tagged with 440V 50 Hz and is 3 phase. I live in residential and am on single phase and in the US so its 60 HZ. I am running my Bridgeport on an inverter style 3 phase 1 hp motor hooked to a VFD. I was looking at a VFD that will step from single phase 230V to 3 phase 230V and then I can control the frequency on the VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) to get the motor back down to its 50 Hz speed. The issue is the 440V. Am I going to cook the motor running it on 220/230? I have also heard mention of people being able to rewire something in the end of the motor to drop it down to 220. The lathe is 4 hrs away and I am going to look at it next weekend. If I can get it cheap enough I may just see about removing the 440V motor and buying an inverter rated motor and just running it from a VFD, only problem is that doing that is more expensive than the machine itself.
