I ran across this article and thought you might be interested. It goes into some pretty good technical depth. I'm making an assumption that the information in the article is correct, but I haven't read much of it in detail to verify (part of my employment involves fatigue engineering, so I'm familiar with many of the concepts in this article). Nonetheless, in the places where I did stop to read, it seemed to be accurate. I think you'll find it interesting, since you've been pursuing the technical aspects of axle shafts lately. I'll probably come back to it later, as I'm sure there are things that I can pick up as well.
