I see it all the time. I worked with a guy and we were talking at work one day when a younger kid came up and started complaining. Said his Dad walked out when he was 16 and how rough he had it with just his Mom. the kid walked away later and I asked my friend how did he stayed quiet and he just said, "You got to let people vent sometimes."
Back story was his parents were drug addicts and left the state, leaving him and his younger sister alone in a rented house with no family around. He didn't want him or his sister to go into foster care so he lied about his age and got 2 different jobs and still went to school. Took care of his sister till she was 17 and he had basically 2 full time jobs after he had graduated. She got in with the wrong crowd as he was always working and she ended up dying from an overdose.
He is now our plant manager. Life is what you make of it so I always think about his example when feeling down. You just never know who is standing next to you.
