On the base of the shell, yes, but this guy says he found "dated bullets". Maybe he meant "shell casings". Lots of people do. In any case, that doesn't prove they were put there a long time ago. Up until fairly recently you could still buy WWII surplus .30-06 and .50 BMG from dealers.
