Alex, I think your math is sound as far as the CFM needs of your engine. But I'm no diesel tech either.

I don't know what the theory behind intake air temp and efficiency, but I do know that people spend a lot of effort trying to get it as low as possible. I think the hot air coming off the radiator is going to be as much or more of an issue as the radiant energy coming off the exhaust system. If you can find a way to draw cool outside air (see photo) into the air cleaner, and keep the filter canister as cool as possible, you are going to be happier.

Could you draw air from the hood louvers? Maybe a long thin box that seals against the hood when it is closed. Would that give you enough airflow?
