Don't know about the color. I did have a close friend who restored a 1/2-ton carryall in Navy colors. He did a lot of research and found that the Navy used at least three different shades of gray/blue during WWII. The early trucks were actually painted entirely black. And, he found out in order to be correct, the gray/blue should be applied over the correct olive drab color for that year - only on the body, bumpers, wheels, etc. - leaving the undercarriage olive drab.

I guess the reason was that all the trucks left the assembly line painted for the Army or Marines and the Navy painted over that with their gray/blue.
