What's the difference between the 3053A and 3053B? My understanding is the 3052 was the original, used on the "Reo" M35 6x6s, and the 3053 was kind of a hack used to provide an overdrive when they retrofitted the multifuel diesels into the old gasser M35s. The 3052 has 5th gear direct, whereas the 3053 has an overdrive 5th in the position where 4th would be on the 3052, while 4th (direct?) on the 3053 is where 5th was on the 3052. The result is that 3rd and 4th are too close together and 4th and 5th are too far apart (or maybe it's the other way around, but 4th doesn't feel like it's in the right place, ratio-wise).

In any case, 3053s should be readily available surplus, especially because lots of M35A2s were upgraded to A3s, with automatic transmissions. I used to get M35 trannies and transfer cases for $100 from the guy who had the scrap contract at Ft Lewis, but they shut him down for selling good pieces intact rather than crushing them. Don't have one to spare now, though, as I blew one up (main shaft broke clean through) and messed another one up trying to swap parts around. That leaves me with one spare I'm going to hang on to.

Curious how you plan to attach a 3053 to a flathead 6 with such different size bell housing. The early M35s had a big Hercules or Continental OHV straight 6.
