I believe subway still uses DC for powering the third rail. There are still elevators in NYC that require DC power. Must now be converted back from AC. In NYC, conversion of buildings from DC to AC began in 1926 and it was estimated it would take 45 years to complete. Obviously, like most large projects, it is running a bit behind schedule...45 years to be exact!
