I thought this an interesting subject, to hear mostly your'alls view, or interpretation, where some of automotive terms for things came to be.

Lets start with the GLOVE BOX... really? should be called a REGISTRATION box! I cant remember EVER putting a pair of gloves in there, but that said, I suppose in the days of old when cars were first invented the drivers had driving GLOVES?

Now i had heard the term DASH BOARD and where it came from.. First cars had a simple panel to protect the driver and occupant from road "dash" as it was called soo soo long ago.

Toe board? I guess thats pretty self explanatory as is a foot board.. but..I can see the use of BOARD as older trucks, like my 41 WC has real wood floor, or boards I guess used at one time...however, a lot of trucks no longer have BOARDS.. they are metal, yet we all still call them BOARDS.

what about a RUNNING BOARD? why that term? Did earlier drivers use this to run along there vehicles to jump in once started or something? and were earlier RUNNING BOARDS actually made of wood, like a FLOOR BOARD?

anyway I thought it a great subject to debate and talk over and see where these terms came from!!
