If his starter is staying engaged to the flywheel while running it would be Junk in short order.
Would never crank when it cools.
He has other problems and I stand by my thought of an "open" when hot.
Have seen this problem on numerous big blocks over the years.
Just because the starter was rebuilt that means nothing.
The symptom is very hard to replicate, and No rebuilder even tries too.
