back in those days the divisions shared almost nothing mechanical. A Buick was as expensive as a Cadillac. an executives car for sure. Pontiac was more a middle management type of buyers car. the Pontiac straight 8 has a very light weight crankshaft compared to the Buick. probably half the weight. they wound up really well for a flathead. I have driven Buicks as well. totally different animals. each has there own fell. both excellent drivers. ONe thing I loved about the 40s and 50s straight 8 Buicks and Pontiacs is the under seat heater. I used to use my 53 tin indian as a ski car. put ski boots on the floor in back and they were always toasty when we got there. no one ever complained about heat. it vented to all 4 passengers nicely. the heater core was actually in the floor and they had a separate core for the defroster system.
