the hydramatic was designed for tanks and medium duty trucks in late 30s early 40s. the first gear is almost as low as the PW 4 speed. it was a pretty good trans. very strong but had a tons of parts so expensive to rebuild. it ahs 4 speeds. it was kind of like having 2, 2 speed trannies in one case. heavy pigs.... I have had to install a few. my 2nd car was a 53 straight 8 Pontiac with hydramatic. excellent set up.
