I thought the frame of the D500 was the same frame they used on the W300. They went to the stronger frame on the four wheel drives to compensate for the rougher use.
This would require needing a D700 to get the desired W500. And the D700 has wider fenders that would allow for wheel clearance when turning on uneven ground.
