I did the same thing. The WDX needed to be rewired...badly. I put in relays and fuses that didn't exist previously.
My little Superwinch on the Vestil Crane needed 12 volts.
6 volt batteries are not as easy to come by as they used to be. Nor are 6 volt bulbs, etc.
And jump-starting doesn't require an electrical engineer on board with you. :)
