One upon a time the Democratic party was the party of the working man, and whatever was good for labor was Party gospel. Now they're the party of urban liberals, which means "social justice" and environmental stuff rules. The greenies hate coal (we have some around here who paddle the rivers in kayaks and raise hell if they find one lump of coal that fell out of a rail car and landed in the river) and there are a lot more urban greenies than coal miners these days. It's a simple calculation for the Party bosses, but I think it's time for the unions to at least quit giving money and endorsements to Democrats.
