Nuts come off pretty easy especially if you heat with an oxy/acc torch. The cotter pins can actually be very stubborn though. If the nuts give you trouble just cut the nut/stud with a torch as you will be replacing them any way. The hard part comes when you try to drive them out of the tapers. No room to swing a hammer as there is only a few inches between the backing plate and stud. You can use a tapered splitter and heat to separate. Hopefully you don't have any bad taper fits. Very difficult to repar.
