I use to hand crank a M37 I had years ago. I would drive the M37 to where ever I was going with it. When it came time to depart, I would hand crank the motor. It would always fire right up. I loved to hand crank it at the base PX as the younger marines got a kick out of it, they had never seen a truck hand cranked before.
I never had to hand crank the motor because of a dead battery, and having just ran the motor, it was very easy.
