I may be wrong (never happens!) but I think there are some frame differences between the D-500 and the W-500, although I'm unclear on what they are.
If you build a W-500, you can expect it to move rather slowly: the stock gearing is 6.80, and because the front diff is one of those oddball military things, it's impossible to find higher gears that will fit (unless you have them custom-made, which is very expensive).
I considered putting in an overdrive unit, but the truck is too heavy for something like a Gear Vendors unit. The ideal set-up wpuld be an old Brownie three-speed, but they are becoming very hard to find...
