Depends one where they are. California is still something like 60% federal lands. BLM lands are open for off roading, shooting, and hunting, but you have to stay on the roads. Closed to shooting during the high fire seasons, open to hunting though.

Yeah, rough country for off roading. Around here the dirt is gone between the cobbles. Just round rocks left, hard to get traction. Straight up the hills, fun on a dirt bike. The across some very narrow razor backs, not a fun place to cramp up your arms after a tough day of dirt biking.

You know all those cobble stone streets in New England? San Diego used to be a whaling port, they picked up ballast here- at Ballast Point, now better known as a Microbrew.
