Thanks to everyone for the suggestions/comments. The transmission came out yesterday and I discovered the pilot bearing was wrong, but that has nothing to do with the distance between the fork and throw out bearing. I thought I had it fixed, but after I bolted the transmission in it was the same. Shucks.

So out come the transmission again this afternoon. The clutch fork, pressure plate and clutch disc were new in 2012. This issue started after we rebuilt the engine in 2015.

We did install a new crankshaft which had the same forging number as the old one, but I am really wondering if the crankshaft is 1/2" shorter.

Can anyone measure the distance between the flywheel machined surface and the bell housing? Mine is four inches exactly. See picture.

What is the fix?

Add a flywheel spacer? I don't like that idea since it is a rotating assembly.

Shim the throw out bearing? I could do that and I think it is a viable option.

Or best is to modify the forks by adding material where the contact the throw out bearing. I can do that pretty easily.

If anyone can check the spacing between the flywheel and bell housing I'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

Wayne
