I spent several hours playing with the linkage and studying it. IT appears the fingers were already partially depressed, but who knows, alnmost like the disc was too thick. So I finally broke down and pulled the transmission today. Thanks to Jared for his help. That goes a lot easier with two people.

It was a struggle to pull the NP420 away from the bell housing. We had to use two crow bars to free it up. When I put the transmission in last April after rebuilding the engine, it fought me like crazy and I had to use straps to pull it tight. That should have set off alarms, but being in a rush to drive it...

So when we pulled the 420 out the pilot bushing fell out. Huh? So we looked at it and it would not fit on the input shaft to the transmission. I suspect the bushing was never on the shaft, but I hate to think where it was??? We measured it, and the OD is too small along with the ID....

So we test bolted the clutch in on a piece of wood and the fingers looked fine. Then we put it on the flywheel with the linkage hooked up and the throwout bearing in place and it was fine and worked as it was supposed to.

So I have a like new old bushing which will go in tomorrow and I'll start putting things back together. When I put the clutch in a couple of years ago I had an extra NP420 input shaft to use a a pilot bushing/clutch alignment tool. If I had done that last year I would have known there was an issue....

More tomorrow maybe. Does anyone have a spare NP420 input shaft??

Thanks to all the suggestions.

Wayne
