I replaced the starter button on my autolite starter without removing the starter. Here is how I did it.
First I remover the battery cable from the starter button. Then removed the front screw from the starter button. Took a pair of pliers and bent the old button around to get to screw next to the engine block.
I took the new starter button and cut a notch out of the screw hole that goes next to the engine block. I replaced the old screws with allen head screws Screwed the rear screw into the starter and just slid the button under the screw head, then tightened both screws.
Easy as pie.
